Building upon the success of BlackLit Durham, the Canadian Black Literary Festival (CBLF) is launching in 2026. It is an annual celebration of African-Canadian literature to take place in Ajax on the last weekend in August before Labour Day weekend every year. The inaugural CBLF 2026 event will be a one-day affair that will expand into a multi-day format in future years.

In holding our festival during August, we honour three important commemorations: Emancipation Month in the province of Ontario, Emancipation Day on August 1, and the International Day for People of African Descent on August 31.
